I can't explain this to myself either. Especially not in relation to "honour" killings.
As for hijabs/burkas etc., maybe some buy the claims of some Muslim women who have been brainwashed to say that they are "happy" (?!) about wearing them and that is their religious "right". Again, tragically this is just one aspect of the systematic mysoginistic repression of women in Islam.
Dag, after i left our blue scarf meeting, i saw a poster for a women's day rally, whose theme was "against war". It's anti-AMericanism that trumps women's rights. They'd rather not have to look at Bush than have to look at women as garbage.
