Sweden: Muslim community fears violence after attack on elderly couple

An elderly couple was attacked last Monday when trying to park their car in the Swedish town of Landskrona. [...] [A] young man (23) ... became so upset, he threw the car door on the 71 year old man, Sven, who fell down. The young man then started beating the 71 year old.

The older man's 78 year old wife, Inger, tried to intervene, but was punched in the face and fainted.

The younger man fled in his car. ... The 71 year was in shock and had injuries to his face and back. The 78 year old ... died of her injuries Wednesday.




[A]t least 20 people who say the suspect was the murderer.

The suspect is described by his former school friends as shy and quiet. "He was calm and composed and a good student," said one of them.

"We are deeply shocked and saddened and have difficulty understanding that this tragedy has really happened," said Othman Tawalbeh to the TT news agency outside Sofia Albertina church.

Ashraf Mahjoub from one of the muslim associations ... [is] unhappy that the 23 year old suspect held by police, who denies all involvement, had his identity and address put out on facebook.

"His family have been threatened. He is convicted in advance." he told TT.

In his speech he protested against the "we and them" attitude spreading in society.

"Violence has no ethnicity, it has no religion," he said in response to the online hate-campaign against the suspect, who is of immigrant background.

Four Islamic and Arab associations called for a press conference in order to calm the unrest in Landskrona after the fatal beating of Inger, 78. Though the associations call it an accident, while the police classifies it as a murder.

"We have a feeling that there's an agenda of a certain party which, unfortunately, wants to exploit this situation to their advantage."

The associations treat the murder very seriously, but also warn the incident can "cause xenophobia in our society".

The suspect's ... family shared their condolences with the family of the deceased Inger (78), but also said: "We are very worn out and do not feel good at all, our children have been badly affected and scared. The accident caused us enormous grief in our lives."

The family says they've received death threats after the suspect's identity was published online, and one of the brothers said he doesn't dare let his children go to school. The suspect's wife got a call from someone saying they'll kill her children.

The 36 year old brother said his wife and children have left Landskrona. They can't sleep but are terrified and do not feel good at all....

According to the suspect's lawyer, the suspect denies everything. His lawyer also said that the suspect was threatened by phone and by internet, that those threats have racist characteristics and that he's taken it up the issue of his protection with the police.

Ferki Hamad, an imam in Landskrona, has known the family for several years.

"Their situation is very complicated. They've got phone calls all night yesterday and the day before. Those who call say 'we will kill your children'" he says.

He thinks the police should take the threats seriously and compares the situation with a case where a rape suspect boy and his family recieved police protection after they were threatened.

"In Landskorna it's about somebody [ the 78 year old woman] who died. This is bigger. I think that the police need to take greater responsibility for the family."

Ferki Hamad was very surprised when he heard of the suspicions against the 23 year old, whom he describes as quiet and well-behaved.

Police detective Tommy Lindén says that the family is safe in Landskorna and that from his experience, they're playing the victim card in order to give them a better negotiating position. The police have mobilized in Landskrona to meet the increased risk of violence. For those who still feel insecure, but do not have the financial means to leave town, the municipality is ready to help.

Tonight I went out to the bars downtown. It was a great night with my roommate Mark Klibanov. Around 1:45am, as we were leaving the bar, and we heard the shout of “Zionist” in Arabic. As it stands now, we weren’t sure if the shouts were directed at myself, a known a supporer of Israel, or Mark, an actual Israeli.

Quickly, we both responded that yes we were Zionists. All of a sudden we were surrounded by 10-15 men who began to shout at us in Arabic. We tried to back out and run away. All of a sudden, I was struck in the back of the head. I’m not sure if it was a fist, a rock or a pipe but it left me dazed and bleeding.

We quickly ran back to the bar and stood beside the bouncers. The crowd of anti-Israel thugs dispersed.

About 10 minutes later, assuming that it was safe, we began to walk home. We were walking through a parking lot when a car pulled up next to us. The driver shouted “I fucking hit you, you Jew.”

We stood our ground. Quickly we had three guys around us. We were able to push them away. As the cowards that they were, they retreated. Then I heard, shouts of “Open the trunk!” One of them opened the trunk and I saw glistening in the street light the reflection of a 12-inch machete. “Fucking Jew,” he shouted. I began to run for my life as he was only 5 or 6 feet away.

I ran, and as I looked back, I saw the long shiny blade slicing through the air about 12 inches from my neck. I ran as fast I could and, thanks to my grade 9 track and field training, got away.

People who were around the scene said the blade came within inches of my neck.

Now, the debate on campuses has reached the next level. In this country, people are no longer safe if they support Israel. But you know what? I will never take back my beliefs. I support Israel 100 per cent.

But I will say this. Some of the guys who tried to kill us are Carleton students and I recognize who they are. What is this country coming to?

What is this country coming to? What, or who, is coming to this country?

The police might, might not, or might casually look int this matter and determine that things are not as bad as they seem, given the nature of this "ethnic" conflict. Meanwhile, the rest of us, if we bother at all, not being satisfied with the "ethnic" origins of this problem, have friends and family walking around as targets of Muslim hatred. Some of us take it personally. Some of us expect the police to take it seriously as well. Where do we draw the line between not making waves and waving down a police car to report that our families and friends have been butchered on the streets?

London, Apr 4(ANI): Fears of a terror attack during the UK General Election have been further fueled by reports that the Al-Qaeda has urged British fanatics to build DIY cruise missiles to attack passenger jets.

According to reports, an Al-Qaeda website explains how to build missiles with solid fuel engines using operating manuals for the Russian 107mm Katyusha rocket. Numerous links are also available for guides to make explosives, including C4 plastic explosive, acetone peroxide and TNT.

The same site was used to explain how to bring down a jet before former London student Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab tried to blow up a passenger jet over Detroit on last year's Christmas Day.

Another recent posting shows a sophisticated computer-designed plan for a two-stage missile that would drop an explosive device on to a target by parachute.

"Isn't it ironic that the two capitals of the war against Islam, Washington DC and London, have also become among the centres of Western Jihad?" The Daily Express quoted Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical on the run in the Yemen, as saying on the website....

I think I should consider myself lucky, given that my name is sort of not weird or flaky, and that the names my parents sometimes called me were not meant to be official or lasting. So, this Easter I'm going to be thankful for the little things in life, and I'll save a moment to reflect on how much worse it is for those less fortunate than I.

If we can think of Muslims, so-called, and think of them as merely others who have some distant religious connection to those of us Judeo-Christian and post-such, then we might think of them as just people like us with a named religion that really doesn't separate us much. However, not everyone is disappointed in each and every vicar, and so because though no vicar is the real thing, at least some might be good indications of what one would know if the chance arose. There are some guys who just cry out for a game of football. Everything about them says, "I want to play and I want to win." To be honest, I like it. I want to play, too. I want to get the guy on the field and get into it full-blast. The guy, the Palestinian in the white tee-shirt and blue jeans in the video below. He can be on the other side, I don't care. I really want to play. I love full-contact sports, and this guy is no metro-sexual. Man-to-man, I want to meet him and try it out.

But he's likely a sissy after all. He looks fairly fit for a fellow his age, and he's cocky enough. But I fear that if it comes to it, he'd probably run away because he's born to cry. It's his nature to fight, but I fear that's been drummed out of him over the course of his years. He's got what it takes to fight, but I think he'll never let himself get to that point, always strutting and bragging, and then backing away when it gets to the flash-point. Too bad, 'cause some guys should be on the field where they belong.

I've seen it many times, that guys Muslim will shout like monkeys and rage like dogs on a chain-- and that's about it. They either act as a mob, no individual action to speak of; or they act individually only by sneaking, afraid to act openly as individuals for fear of offending the Muslim collective. Not so of Iranians, often enough. I've known some first-rate boxers from Iran. They'll stand man-to-man and fight. But I've only encountered one Palestinian who ever did that. Too bad. Mostly they just strut and make noises: "The Jews need another Holocaust." Uh huh.
