Islam must take a seat and pay close attention

Muslims want to build a 13 story monument to Islam two blocks from Ground Zero, and the local dhimmis think it's a great idea.

I've been in a state of shock for the past few days. Here's some of the story.

NEW YORK (CBS) ― In a building damaged by debris from the Sept. 11 airliners that brought down the World Trade Center and soon to become a 13-story mosque, some see the bridging of a cultural divide and an opportunity to serve a burgeoning, peaceful religious population. Others see a painful reminder of the religious extremism that killed their loved ones.

Anything having to do with that day, that place, carries enormous meaning. Now two Islamic organizations have partnered to build something that they say will bring some good from something very bad.

Organizers say the project will create a venue for mainstream Islam and a counterbalance to radicalism. It earned a key endorsement this week from influential community leaders.

"This is a community center, a community and cultural center, which would include certainly prayer space for Muslims and we hope for non-Muslims as well, to bring about a new discourse in the relationship between the United States, New York City, and the Muslim world," said Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf of the Cordoba Initiative.

He's hoping the 13-story, $100 million Islamic center will join the other buildings; the banks, offices, and apartments, going up at ground zero. It will serve a growing Muslim population in lower Manhattan.

The closest mosque to this area is a dozen blocks away and very over-crowded, but this site was also chosen for exactly what happened here on 9/11, and what America stands for, Rauf told CBS station WCBS-TV in New York City.

"Definitely, this is a victory of American tolerance over hatred," Rauf said.

Who's Rauf? Why do we have a Muslim discussing a Muslim monument built near to Ground Zero? Why isn't his voice one of many rising in a long scream begging for mercy? No. Instead he is triumphant. He accuses us of his own filthy crimes, and our own lap it up like a dog at his own vomit. Build a Muslim monument at Ground Zero and thank Muslims for it. Dhimmis love it.

Shahzad, however, seemed to lack proper training in launching a terror attack. He loaded his SUV with 100 pounds of harmless fertilizer – made from cow manure – which he attempted to detonate by the use of M88 fireworks attached to small propane tanks.

Upon igniting the fireworks as a fuse, the would-be jihadi neglected to turn on the propane.

The leader of Tehrik e-Taliban is Baitullah Mehsud, a Pashto warlord, who commands 5,800 fighters. Some of his fighters are American Muslims, who may have been trained at Islamberg and other Jamaat ul-Fuqra compounds throughout the United States.

Many of the African Americans, who are trained at the ul-Fuqra compound, are sent to Pakistan to participate in the great jihad.

That the idiot we saw at work in Times Square can't tell the difference between chemical and cow fertilizer is not something we can laugh at. They can't be all that stupid. And as we see above, they do kill people. There are a lot of them, and they are serious.

This is something we might wish to prepare for in terms of explaining it to those we know and meet. We're involved in a serious war, and many if not most of our own people deny it passionately and to the point of fury and frenzy. We have to continue talking anyway, every time there's a chance to bring up the subject.

It still means little until connected somehow to a terrorist plot. Just as I cautioned you and everyone else when the story broke, don't jump to conclusions until enough facts are in...

Tonight I went out to the bars downtown. It was a great night with my roommate Mark Klibanov. Around 1:45am, as we were leaving the bar, and we heard the shout of “Zionist” in Arabic. As it stands now, we weren’t sure if the shouts were directed at myself, a known a supporer of Israel, or Mark, an actual Israeli.

Quickly, we both responded that yes we were Zionists. All of a sudden we were surrounded by 10-15 men who began to shout at us in Arabic. We tried to back out and run away. All of a sudden, I was struck in the back of the head. I’m not sure if it was a fist, a rock or a pipe but it left me dazed and bleeding.

We quickly ran back to the bar and stood beside the bouncers. The crowd of anti-Israel thugs dispersed.

About 10 minutes later, assuming that it was safe, we began to walk home. We were walking through a parking lot when a car pulled up next to us. The driver shouted “I fucking hit you, you Jew.”

We stood our ground. Quickly we had three guys around us. We were able to push them away. As the cowards that they were, they retreated. Then I heard, shouts of “Open the trunk!” One of them opened the trunk and I saw glistening in the street light the reflection of a 12-inch machete. “Fucking Jew,” he shouted. I began to run for my life as he was only 5 or 6 feet away.

I ran, and as I looked back, I saw the long shiny blade slicing through the air about 12 inches from my neck. I ran as fast I could and, thanks to my grade 9 track and field training, got away.

People who were around the scene said the blade came within inches of my neck.

Now, the debate on campuses has reached the next level. In this country, people are no longer safe if they support Israel. But you know what? I will never take back my beliefs. I support Israel 100 per cent.

But I will say this. Some of the guys who tried to kill us are Carleton students and I recognize who they are. What is this country coming to?

What is this country coming to? What, or who, is coming to this country?

The police might, might not, or might casually look int this matter and determine that things are not as bad as they seem, given the nature of this "ethnic" conflict. Meanwhile, the rest of us, if we bother at all, not being satisfied with the "ethnic" origins of this problem, have friends and family walking around as targets of Muslim hatred. Some of us take it personally. Some of us expect the police to take it seriously as well. I think I should consider myself lucky, given that my name is sort of not weird or flaky, and that the names my parents sometimes called me were not meant to be official or lasting. So, this Easter I'm going to be thankful for the little things in life, and I'll save a moment to reflect on how much worse it is for those less fortunate than I.

I find that as I get older my private life shrinks from the large thing it was as a younger man: I don't have a mass of close friends, don't have family and social concerns of pressing import, don't involve myself in the personal lives of people I know. My interests are personal, but not so much private. My interests have shifted from privacy to publicity, i.e. from the life of myself and close ones to the lives and doing of the greater, if indistinct, general world of Man.

That, again to clarify, is to mean that were one of my friends harmed, then all my efforts would focus centrally on retribution against anyone who has done them harm, a thing I would take personally. As is, my concerns are more outward, more geared toward my greater community of souls, my nation, my civilization, my world. That, of course, involves many who share little or nothing with me in this life but world air-currents. Still, they concern me. I usually wish them no harm in any personal fashion. Which brings me to those who must be harmed. We might, you and I, call it love.

My nation and its people are strong, and strong beyond even our comprehension. Thus, when reading the piece below, I find myself concerned about the harm that will come due to our misguided strength turned these latter days to deliberate weakness. VOA News last Thursday published a ridiculous article that, unfortunately, reflects all-too-common assumptions: “President Obama Seeks to Bridge Differences with Islam,” by Jerome Socolovsky. It begins:

U.S. President Barack Obama has again postponed his trip to Indonesia because of pressing issues in the U.S. The trip is part of his ongoing effort to reach out to Muslims worldwide. Last year, he gave a speech in Cairo that was considered a landmark in the effort to bridge differences between Islam and the West. Many Muslims believe he should do more [sic]

No one seems to think that Muslims have any responsibility to “bridge differences between Islam and the West.” No, everyone, from Barack Obama to Jerome Socolovsky, and everyone in between, knows that the conflict is all the West’s fault. Note how Jerome Socolovsky frames the conflict:

Frictions between Islam and the West often flare up – like when when a Danish newspaper published cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed – or when Muslim girls in Europe went to school wearing veils, or new minarets in Switzerland were banned.

Note that he mentions nothing about, say, “frictions” “flaring up” when Muslims, acting in the name of Islam and jihad, murder thirteen Americans in cold blood at Fort Hood, or murder two American soldiers in Little Rock, Arkansas, or murder one and wound five in a Jewish Community Center in Seattle, or plow into a crowd of students, trying to murder as many as possible, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Etc.

No, none of that makes “frictions” “flare up.” Instead, “frictions” only “flare up” when a Danish newspaper has the temerity to publish cartoons of the “Prophet Mohammed” — as the mainstream media universally designates him these days, as if we’re all Muslims now. Jerome Socolovsky gives no hint that he, or any reasonable person, may think that it’s sheer madness or worse to go around murdering innocent people, or even demanding free speech restrictions, because of a few cartoons. As far as he is concerned, the cartoons — not Islamic jihad mass murders — make “frictions” “flare up.”

Our nation is strong beyond measure or reckoning. We have confused the weak by our pretences of weakness in the world. I personally have done such at times, and the result is that there has to be a reckoning of terrible correction. The Muslim world is the weakest of worlds in our universe of shared living. The Muslim world is a pathetic and sick thing filled to overflowing with ugliness and evil, now on the rampage against our sentimental civility. We kid them with our sentimentality, giving them, the "Shoe-bombers" and the "Panty-bombers" and the Mohammed Cartoon criers, the idea that we are weak and cannot resist them in their staged furies. We fake a weakness we do not have. We pretend we have no strength to fight and no desire to kill. That, dear reader, is a cosmic injustice that will come to shame us. By which I mean:

The Muslim world, emboldened to attack the world of the strong, attacks the strong, They, in their grip of the delusion of our weakness and the displays of our collective and public sentimentalities, assume wrongly that we are weak and cowardly. This is clearly not so. We, like others, are as capable of cruelty and evil as others; and we will, in time, act upon our own worst natures, as befits the common man enraged.

Personally there are few things I love more than pain and blood, fires raging out of control, the breath-taking exhilaration of explosions, the screams of the tortured, and the stillness of the dead. I like it beyond liking: I love it. I love war.

Muslim terror? Muslims are weak and stupid. I could happily live without ever thinking of such garbage people and such garbage cultures. But because we allow them to invade our consciousness on a daily, hourly, moment by moment basis, now, and for years now, I am focussed on them, and nearly them alone. Focus means they will have to suffer for it. If they'd slunk off and died like dogs we wouldn't have bothered with them. As is, they demand our attention, which is our innate evil nature's delight. I love war; and war against Muslims, regardless of their lack of nobility as worthy enemies, is my delight, personally. I don't think so often of my personal life as my personal life, preferring to think instead of my life as a public thing involved in public war.

My private life is shrunk to the smallest. My personal life is given over mostly to the thought of war, and war in this case, against Islam. It's a shameful thing to attack and destroy such worthless and disgusting primitives, but such is the fate given us by our own sentimentalists. Crushing Islam to dust, disgusting as it is for the strong to crush such weaklings, is something I can live with, given the love of war and the lack of a better class of enemy.

Headscarves, the new trend

Headscarves are becoming the new hot trend in Western fashion, with famed designer labels and industry biggest names explaining the appeal of the headwear as a comeback of elegance and chastity to the runways.


"We wanted to revamp the headscarf," Domenico Dolce, co-founder of the Italian fashion house Dolce and Gabana, told The Telegraph on Wednesday, July 16.


"[We want to] give it a new life and introduce it to a younger generation."


The famous Luxury fashion house D&G and other big names in the industry, like Paul Smith, Vera Wang and Jean Paul Gaultier, are now leading the new fad with their designs.


On the catwalks for autumn/winter, many of the industry's noted brands offered the headscarf.


"Our aim was to give it a modern and cool twist," says Dolce.


The trend is also appealing to the customers.


Hermès, the French high fashion house renowned for its range of designs of silk headscarves, has seen a rise in the sales recently.


Vivienne Alexander says the company has been selling out to "a much younger crowd than usual."


And with the rocketing demand, designers are coming out with a wider variety of the head covering in their collections.


"I do think we will be seeing a fair amount of headscarves around over the next few months," says Gaia Geddes, executive fashion editor of Harper's Bazaar.


Industry experts agree the new headscarves trend is about bringing a touch of modesty and chic to the runways.


According to Dennis Nothdruft, curator of London's Fashion and Textile Museum, the headscarf resurgence is about a new sense of "chastity" in fashion.


He affirms that the trend is not all new after all.


"Women wore headscarves in medieval times to maintain their modesty," he explains.


Others believe the headscarf is lending a sense of elegance to woman's appearance.


They contend that customers want to imitate the caliber of famous women who have emphasized the headscarf's glamorous and sophisticated look, like the American movie star Grace Kelly.


Alexander, of Hermès fashion house, says that a sizable proportion of their customers are Muslims, who wear their products as hijab, Islam's obligatory code of dress for women.


But she affirms that the large bulk of the clients are non-Muslims who are seeking a modest, elegant look.


"This is more about a return to that elegant Grace Kelly era than anything else."

I was engaged in some travel idiocy, as is the course of my life, when I met a gang of Kosovars, i.e. Albanian Muslim terrorists, taking a break from the day's fighting. One beckoned me from the far side of the road: "Come over here," he jeered. I didn't. He stood up and yelled at me, getting his cliche so backward I don't know even now if I laughed or shuddered:

Our Enemies Within: Hesham Islam and Eric Edelman

The following story is like a magic trick: just when it looks like one ordinary stunt it turns out to be a chicken pulled from a hat. A Muslim infiltrator in the U.S. government, Hesham Islam, has been exposed and is soon to leave his post, so far not charged with a crime. Islam, working as an adviser to a high-level U.S. bureaucrat, tried to have a U.S. Army major dismissed from his position in the U.S. military as a lecturer on the nature of jihad. Islam referred to Major Stephen Coughlin as a "Christian zealot with a pen." For Islam's boss, Gordon England, that was criticism enough to have Coughlin's contract ended. Instead, Islam was outed, and Coughlin was reinstalled. So far, very good. But now comes Eric S. Edelman. Our nation is in trouble again, not so much from our enemies this time as from our leaders.

Study after study shows clearly to all that economics plays little or no part in the jihadi motivation, that it is jihad ideology based on and rooted in Islamic orthodoxy that propels jihad. Our govenment is losing this war against jihad because it continues to follow the Cold War line of thinking in terms of economics and geopoitical strategizing at the expense of looking to the people and understanding them as they are not as the bureaucrats assume they are. Eric Edelman is one more person -- his background is in Soviet studies -- who has learned all he has learned about Islam from his encounter with Turkey, and not so much Turkey as with secularist Turks, in a still-semi-Kemalist Turkey. In this respect, he is like others, such as Perle and Feith, who were before becoming enmeshed in the Iraq misadeventure, great believers in the permanence of Kemalism, and of secular Turkey, and some even served as agents of the Turkish government. Another example of the phenomenon, though his case is more complicated, is that of Bernard Lewis.

Edelman firmly believes, allows himself to believe, cannot but believe, that "[c]learly, the absence of freedom, the absence of hope, the absence of economic development are the breeding ground of terrorism." This is the world of Muslims without Islam, Hamlet without the Prince. He feels, along with George Bush, that if we cure that "absence of freedom" by transplanting that "freedom" (most crudely defined as vote-counting at election time) to "ordinary moms and dads" in the Middle East, and if we bring them "prosperity" and so end that "absence of economic development," and both of those, and so much more, will reverse that "absence of hope" that, the eric-edelmans of this world must believe, have to believe, deeply truly sincerely cannot do other than believe, is the "breeding ground of terrorism."

He's got it wrong. The breeding-ground of terrorism is any state, or people, or society, or community, where Islam, unmediated or undiluted by time or space or other conceivable identities, molds the minds of men, and they take it seriously. They may be as spectacularly rich as Bin Laden (or at least his family), or from as notable a background as Ayman al-Zawahiri. The terrorists and would-be are likely, studies have shown, to be far better educated and better off than the average Muslim.

But that is not all that Eric Edelman gets wrong. He doesn't seem to comprehend the intellectual world, the moral world, of Islam -- and that world can only be conveyed, or rather cannot conceivably be conveyed without, a knowledge of what Islam is all about, what Muslims read in their canonical texts, what they have repeated day in and day out (no, not among the secularists of Turkey, no, but that experience, and not merely in Turkey but in Turkey as the cosseted American ambassador, was as poor a guide for Edelman was was Paul Wolfowitz's experience as the cosseted American ambassador in Jakarta, meeting the most secular locals, and being told what his local interlocutors were sure he would be pleased to here ("yes, we really are looking forward to establishing relations with Israel"), and learning little about Islam, and certainly not learning about it from his charming Muslims-in-exile friends, who were not about to say "you know, the best way for you to deal with Iraq is to allow the ethnic and sectarian fissures to work their magic, and to have consequences beyond the borders of Iraq, because the best thing for you Infidels is to divide and demoralize the Camp of Islam" -- no, that is not what Paul Wolfowitz was told by Chalabi, Makiya, or his Arab non-Iraqi companion).

If indeed Edelman thinks it would be best for policy to be made, in dealing with the threat of Jihad, by not studying the texts and tenets, and not listening to those who have studied those texts and those tenets (and are definitely not part of the small army of apologists who have been camped out in the capitals of the West for the past several decades, nicely subsidized by Saudi Arabia and other sweetly disinterested parties), then perhaps his counsel of ignorance entitles him, too, to be shown the door.

There is a limit. And the limit on this kind of thing has been reached.

It is the utopian vision of the world as perfectible 'if only we throw enough money at the problem' that prevents our current leadership from understanding the nature of jihad. How much more money would have enticed bin Ladin to remain in the discos and flesh-pots of Beirut rather than going off in search of Jihad in Afgahanistan? How poor were the 19 psychotic jihadis who attacked us on 9/11? How much more welfare money will it take to encourage Muslim rioters across western Europe to quit burning and looting every night? How many immigrant student doctors will quit bombing England and Scotland if only they get... What? What will stop the jihadis? If we turn all hospital beds to face Mecca, stop eating in front of Muslims during Ramadan, rid the world of ceramic piggies on window sills, stop drinking alcohol at sidewalk cafes, become more "inclusive".... What will stop the jihadis?

Our problem with jihad is merely technical. Within a week we in the modern West could rid the world of the threat of Islam without a doubt. We could bomb them out of existence and destroy every vestige of them within a month by stopping our foreign aid to the point they simply starve to death. Our problem with jihad is not our problem with jihad: our problem with jihad is our problem with all primitives: we don't want to understand that they are not like us. We are the problem. Eric Edelman is the problem. He and his counterpart Left Death Hippies the Left dhimmi fascist utopians who have o regard for the otherness of others are the problem we face and that we must confront. Until e face ourselves and our disbelief in the authentic difference between our understanding of reality and that of our enemies, we will be our own worst enemies. I didn't go looking for a fight story. I was minding my own business when the fight story came my way. Just a few days ago I wrote a seemingly opaque comment at Covenent Zone in which I argued that it is better to fight and suffer the consequences than to suffer from the pangs of cowardice forever. And today, sure enough, there is a story about the very sort of thing I wrote about, except that it's not exactly what I meant at all.

For John Wayne - or at least John Wayne's character in 1976's The Shootist - the rules were simple. "I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, I won't be laid a hand on," he said. "I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them."

Why should you put up with being pushed around or insulted, or allow this to happen to those who can't defend themselves? Nowadays we are told violence never solved anything. This is nonsense. We may have our reasons for choosing not to hit someone: ethics, fear of arrest, a hand modelling contract, cowardice.

But it is a lie to suggest that the employment of gentlemanly fisticuffs can't help when dealing with the hooligans, ruffians and rogues who infect our streets. Herewith are five reasons you should at least consider putting up your dukes the next time a fellow is asking for it.

1. Ungentlemanly behaviour must be corrected

What are you supposed to do when a guy spits on you?

Jericho is the name of the obnoxious hippie Chris Jones dragged out of a quiet neighbourhood pub and beat up last year. "These f---ing guys were being so loud," he explains over the phone from his home in Ottawa. Jones asked the Biblically named patron and his friends to quiet down; when Jericho "loosed a throat pony" on Jones's face, Jones pulled him outside by the beard and punched him out.

"I definitely think spitting in someone's face is provocation," Jones says.

Jones happens to be a staff writer for Esquire magazine. He recounted his bar bout in the November issue in a piece called "Why I Started Punching Jerks Again" (retitled "In Defense of the Fistfight" for the online edition).

"Believe it or not, there was a rational process leading to this point," he says. "The fact is, more and more people are acting, like I say in the story, like they're above being edited. No one has ever challenged them."

Nowadays, Jones reluctantly provides that challenge if provoked. "The fact is, I'm not a violent person. I would rather there not be any fights. But that would necessitate that there not be any a--holes."

2. Fighting could make you a real-life Tyler Durden

The moral of Jones's story - that, like it or not, standing up to the Jerichos of this world means being willing to punch them [in the] face - resonated with readers. He says he's had more feedback for that one short piece than for any other he's written, overwhelmingly from men. Like the narrator of Fight Club (a 1996 novel and 1999 film), fighting made Jones the subject of unexpected admiration.

3. Fighting could make you a star on YouTube

If men don't have the opportunity to get into a real-life fist fight, they'll watch one.

"I really don't know why this video got so big. If you really think about it, it's just a fight on a bus," says Anthony Bloch of Thornhill, Ont., whose camera captured the video that became the online hit "Drunk Bus Fight on the Vomit Comet."

The video depicts a rider fighting off three other young men on a late-night bus in Toronto. Bloch had a good view from his seat when the fight went down last fall. "The guy who's standing on top, I think these guys said something to his girlfriend," he says. "He was definitely protecting his girlfriend. He was holding her in place in that little corner while he was fighting off all these people."

While violence is everywhere in the media, examples of real-life chivalry are rare. Grainy footage of a bus fight is irresistible viewing to men, especially when the hero wins a three-against-one donnybrook in defence of his lady's honour. Drunk Bus Fight's hit count ballooned to nearly 60,000 after it appeared on the local TV news.

4. Knocking a guy out is easier than you think

"The great myth of the bar fight is that it's 20 minutes long, if you watch these movie fights. The fact is that if you catch someone squarely in the face, the fight's over," says Jones, who is five-foot-10 and has a little boxing training. "There shouldn't be a lot of windup. It should be quick."

5. Fighting actually feels good

The old, non-violent Jones failed to intervene one day when a pair of young men slapped a beer out of a homeless man's hand. The incident ate at him for years. "I was carrying these burdens from fights I didn't fight far longer than any bruises would have taken to heal," Jones says. Punching the grin off Jericho's face made him feel much better.

Exchanging blows can make you feel like a million bucks even if you get hurt. "The feeling of the fight - you never really feel more alive," says Hominick, though he still recommends keeping a cool head.

When it comes to dealing with people with a bully mentality, Jones says most of the time you won't even need to throw a punch. Bullies rely on intimidation; when they see you're willing to fight, they typically back down.

My comment at covenant Zone is about Islam and Left Dhimmi Fascism. I used some local examples to make a broader point: that when America is attacked, we must rely on our government and its legitimate armed forces to do our violence for us in a rational and laawful way; but that if that fails us, then we must act on our own, outside the bounds of our lands, and then, if and when captured, we must willingly submit to the punishment that comes of our actions.

If, as above, a foreign nation spits on us, we should punch that nation in the face and ensure no other nation treats us that way again. Harsh? Violent? Disproportionate? Of course it is, and it must be so. It is the nature of Nature that the weak are beaten for no other reason than that they are weak. It is the nature of our Modernity that we do not beat others simply because we can; we are rational and moving ever further toward justice in our laws. But we have missed a point of interest: that we must not be rational to the extent that we are irrational. A nation hurts us? We must stomp it and its innocent civilians into the bloody ground to ensure no other nation does the same to us again or to any other nation. It is rational, it is just, and it is beyond me why there is widening rationalizations for the unjust. America and the West as pitiful weaklings brings out disgust and hatred in many non-Modern people. We either to learn to deal with them as they are rather than as how we think they are or how we think they should be, or we die or become enslaved from sheer ugly cowardice.

But the fact is that men are men and men can only put up with so much shit before nothing else matters but being a full-blown man. Then all the years of schooling and office-politicking and being Mr Nice-guy trying to get laid come to a full stop. Then comes out the man and the fight gets nasty.

Jihadi-bent Moslems? Left Dhimmi Fascists? Our Sensitive New Age CIA? Roll over, boys. Men are coming to town soon enough.
