A widening net

I think I'm missing something when I read the following piece: A Dutchman complains to the police that he's being victimized by a Dutchman who draws cartoons. The cartoons are 'racist.' A Dutchman converts to Islam, but what race does that make him? I would have thought he'd still be Dutch. What do I know? Obviously not as much as the ten cops who arrested the cartoonist. Ten cops to bust a cartoonist. That's gotta be some deadly pencil he wields. Quick on the draw, maybe. And the paper? Well, maybe it's criminal paper somehow. Yeah, ten cops to bust a guy for cartoons. It's as good or better [read "worse] than Rachel Davis or Bill Simpson complaining about Death Hippies at the Carnegie Centre in Vancouver, Canada. Worse perhaps than Mark Styne, Ezra Levant, and company. And that's just the locals. Wafa Sultan, Ayaan Hirsi Ai, Ibn Warraq, Ali Sina, all those racists, what are we going to do? It looks like the Death Hippies will arrest everyone. And the way to do it is to create a police state so the whole place, walking or sitting, is a prison.

The Dutch authorities have arrested the cartoonist Gregorius Nekschot (a pseudonym. Nekschot means deathblow, litt: "shot in the back of the neck" [An interview with Nekschot here]). The judicial authorities in Amsterdam said yesterday that the cartoonist was arrested as a suspect for the criminal offense of "publishing cartoons which are discriminating for Muslims and people with dark skin."

The cartoonist was arrested on Tuesday, while the police searched his house for "discriminating evidence." His computer, backups, usb sticks, mobile phone and a number of drawings were confiscated. Nekschot was released two days later but it is possible that he will be charged following a complaint in 2005 by the Dutch imam Abdul Jabbar van de Ven, an indigenous Dutchman who converted to Islam.

Nekschot, a friend of the late Theo van Gogh, the Dutch film maker who was ritually slaughtered by a Muslim fanatic in 2004, hides his real identity in order to avoid unnecessary risks. Hans Teeuwen, a Dutch stand-up comedian and friend of Nekschot's, told the Dutch media yesterday that the police had told Nekschot as they released him earlier that day that "he has now lost his anonymity." Teeuwen said this was "a rather intimidating remark."

As spokeswoman of Xtra, Nekschot's publisher, said today: "He was arrested with a great show of force, by around 10 policemen." The spokeswoman asked that her name not be used because the cartoonist and publisher have received death threats. Nekschot told the Dutch newspaper Het Parool today that police officers had told him: "What you draw is worse than what they did in Denmark. Do you realize what can happen to you if your identity gets known?" The cartoonist fears for his live if he is being sent to jail. "As the maker of those cartoons my life is in danger in prison," he said.

Nekschot's work is rude and often sexually explicit. As such it is characteristic for the Dutch liberal mentality and not beyond the limit in the Netherlands. In his cartoons, however, he mocks the multicultural society, and that does seem to be beyond all bounds.

Let's face it: most people in the West do not care at all about freedom of speech. They don't care one little bit. They'll apathetically accept a police state without a complaint. Well, how about 'what' being that the Grand Mufti of Syria is making death threats in the statement above? He's free to threaten the Western world, and we're free to ignore him. However, it'll be damned hard to ignore dead bodies and burning buildings and whatever else Muslims have in store if Wilders' film hits the aether. So whadda ya do? Do you stop Wilder's from provoking the collective insanity that is the Muslim ummah? Where do you stop? Do you ever stop? Will we in the world at large be forced to become Muslims ourselves from fear of risk of offense to Muslims if our very kuffar nature offends them? We've already allowed ourselves to be placed unwittingly in a state of high dhimmitude by our politicians and intelligentsia. Many of our fellow citizens through natural conformity to the prevailing norms of sociable conduct perpetuate the dhimmitude. So, where does it end? Does it end?

There is a rush recently to silence anyone who criticizes Islam, notably in the case of Ezra Levant, Maclean's Magazine, Mark Steyn, and many more, including the Dutch politician Aayan Hirsi Ali, co-maker of the Dutch film Submission, the showing of which got Theo Van Gogh killed by a Muslim. Now Wilders is on the verge of showing a film of his own, one the Mulsims are already protesting, one the Grand Muffy of Syria is threatening violence over.

It has been bothering Marjo Rashid-Stals for weeks. It has been giving her stomach aches. And now that Geert Wilders' anti-Qu'ran film is about to come out she's had enough.

So she has written a letter to the Dutch government pointing out that as a Dutch citizen in Bahrain she is afraid of the repercussions the film could have for her. She is also afraid of the Netherlands' image. This is part of the letter she has written to the Dutch government:

"I'm deeply ashamed. Will I soon have to apologise for an entire country?

..my heart fills with fear when I think of what will happen after the release of Geert Wilders' film. What will happen with the so-called dialogue between the West and the East? What will become of our image in the Islamic world?"

Marjo feels powerless. She has been living with Arab people for years.

How should I react towards people who feel insulted by Wilders' film? How can I defend myself if I am deeply ashamed? I can only offer my excuses and attempt to explain that not all Dutch people are like Wilders. But should I have to apologise for an entire country?"

The whole piece is sentimental, a phoniness permeating its every line; and it is a call to cowardice and self-pity. The official narrator chides the reader for not doing enough to stop Wilders from being a bad person. That's the official Dutch line. If this, dear reader, is what you want from life, to be forever treated by your government like a kindergaartener, then do nothing while the government slowly but silently smothers you in blankets that will keep you immobile till the end. It is a velvet fascism. It is a fascism nonetheless. If you don't resist it, you will become enveloped in it. You might not like it.

Free speech doesn't give one the right to offend anyone. Friend, what do you make of a government that comes up with a position like that?

Warren Kinsella: Useful Idiot. (Finally.)

If you know what we do here and why we do it, then the following piece will have you howling with laughter, maybe have you leaning out the window cheering.

It's easy enough to find idiots on the Left, but it's not everyday that one finds one who is actually useful. So you will find this one, Warren Kinsella, delightful in his role as idiot who does the world some good. I'm still laughing.

Briefly, last evening I found a piece in the National Post newspaper in Canada by Warren Kinsella. It argues for censorship to protect the feelings of Muslims, perhaps among others. Kinsella argues against hate-speech, wanting censorship to stop it or to prosecute it's authors. He writes: "Firstly, let me say that I am a censor. I believe there are reasonable and proper limits on human expression. ... I believe we are entitled as society to place reasonable limits on the expression of actual hatred towards religious faiths. I believe that words and images that expose the tenets of a person's faith to hatred should be condemned and, where appropriate, punished. Expressing hatred about someone else's spiritual beliefs is not free speech. It is hatred, and it is almost always calculated to cause pain and hurt....." I read it, found it mildly repulsive, and really didn't give it any more thought till this evening when I encountered this wonderful piece of useful idiocy from the censor himself. I could not have paid for such a fool to perform like this. Even though this man is apparently some kind of party hack for a federal government clique, i.e. the Liberal Party, and even though such types are, as I understand it, for sale, I don't think anyone in the nation here could afford to pay a man to do what Kinsella did for free. I am laughing.

Those of us who have studied Islam can only read Kinsella and burst out laughing. Here is a man who wants to prosecute people for writing the truth about Islam, and he doesn't know what the truth is because he's never looked into Islam at all. Not a bit. He obviously, the evidence proving it in his statements above, doesn't know a thing about Islam and yet wants to shut up and perhaps jail those of us who do know and who write with genuine authority on this subject. That's the part I shrug off, he being an idiot. It's the useful part that grabs my attention today. This is one useful idiot, this Kinsella.

He not only makes a fool of himself in a national paper, he not only gives a large readership to Canadian Infidel's display of some very basic facts about Mohammed and the Sunna, he goes further and shows us all what the mind of a censor is like and what we can expect from the Leftists who vie for political control of the nation here and nations abroad.

According to Kinsella, if you write the truth about Islam you are a cowardly creep spewing hatred. Never mind that Kinsella doesn't have the first clue about Islam. Never mind that Canadian Infidel knows and writes about Islam to a degree that Kinsella, party hack and newspaper opinionator cannot begin to match. What is both vividly explanatory and revelatory and what is hilarious too is that we can see the silly little censor shrieking for prosecution of one who knows the truth based on facts gathered by effort. We see the censor spewing hatred against a man who actually knows the facts, and we see that the facts really don't enter into the mind of the censor, it being occlude by ideology and by sheer hubris. This political hack, Kinsella, wants to put people in jail because, and only because, they disagree with him. It not that the other person is wrong, because in the case of Canadian Infidel, the latter is right on the facts; Kinsella's only reason for wanting to do whatever thing he wants to do to C.I. is that Kinsella doesn't like people who disagree with him and his idiot opinions. Reality and facts make no difference here. Kinsella is after C.I. for disagreeing with him, and that's all. There is no other reason.

If Kinsella's gang of idiots get into political power again in this country I'm outta here. That would be due to the leadership of this nation being in the hands of idiots who are lethally stupid and bigoted. Sure, I'd like to spend time in jail with Ezra Levant, tried for reprinting the Danish Cartoons in Alberta, Canada, but really, if Canadians vote for idiots like this Kinsella, there's not much point in hanging around even for the good company of Levant. Meanwhile, it's a great laugh because Kinsella has put up Canadian Infidel's comments in a large circulation paper and shown it to the world. He's shown himself to be an obvious idiot and bigot who won't read before he makes up his nasty opinions and threatens those who disagree with him. He shows himself and those who follow his automatically assumed opinions to be not only uninformed but dead wrong about their opinions. He gave C.I. a huge audience of people who might otherwise not have known the facts. And in fact, what has me laughing so loud for so long is that t date there are roughly 20 comments under the opinion piece showing the truth about Mohammed and Islam, the truth that would never have come out in such a great fashion if not for the useful idiocy of Warren Kinsella making a total fool of himself in public and giving the people a chance to show him as such in a national paper. Free speech in Canada and the world generally is today under attack, not just from the usual suspects, not just from obvious totalitarians like Stalinist-style communists or Chinese obscurantists or Third World dictators, as always, but from those who, not so long ago, marched for civil rights for the masses, for ethnic minorities, for women, for the "marginalized" in general, i.e. from the Left. That should come as no surprise, so long as we know the roots of the Left, it then being inevitable and obvious. The Left! What a miserable and vicious joke it is to look to them for anything but hatred and evil manipulations. Question their moralisms, their self-adorned holinesses, their pretentious and affected concerns for the people, and you will see dirty little grubs who want nothing more than power and glory, even if it is tinsel thin. Lionheart is a British blogger who writes that he is under threat of a seven year prison term for blogging in such a way that the police in Lutton are waiting his return to the country to arrest him. About Lionheart's case there is a nifty comment here from an otherwise uninformed and thoughtless Lefty. Even he gets it:

Surely the bigger issue here isn't whether or not he actually goes to chokey, it's the fact that we now live in a society in which he credibly could.

I'm an artist by trade. I don't draw political stuff, but if I did I would consciously avoid anything to do with Islam etc for two reasons (a) a muslim might kill me and (b) I might fall foul of the "religous hatred" laws.

It's almost beyond belief that we're now in a situation where these things are credible threats. I'll be honest here. I don't like Islam very much, and the more extreme it is the less I like it. The same goes for Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Wicca, Scientology, Greenism, Socialism, Conservatism, Fascism, Syndicalism, Anarchism, Thatcherism and Gordon Fucking Brown, because I don't like ideologies, period, because the more extreme they get they inevitably end up with somebody saying "well, we have no choice, we're going to have to start killing people".

The fact that we now have laws preventing people even criticising approved ideologies scares the daylights out of me.

Well? Why is Simpson out on the street? A Star Chamber proceeding against Simpson resulted in his removal from a community centre for the city's poorest denizens. The claims trying to justify Simpson's removal, his banning from the centre, change with the wind, it seems. What doesn't change is that Simpson is still on the street. Ezra Levant is on trial for republishing twelve cartoons from a Danish paper. He's not on trial in a court of law but in a Death Hippie mockery of a court, one that has some legal powers to fine him and wreck his life. Levant published some cartoons that some Muslims feel they can make a scene over. This is an obvious direct attack on all Canadians who value liberty. Not all Canadians do. I value free speech. I don't mind going to jail to defend my right and yours to say and write any obnoxious thing I choose to. I don't like Islam, and so what? Islam is a fascist poligion. There is nothing in it for me to like. Like its later cousin, Nazi-ism, Islam is a fascism that I work to destroy, just as Islam works to destroy my freedom. and yours.
