BREAKING NEWS: Man Kills At Least 11 in Brazil School, ID.ed & Leaves Note (UPDATE)

The body of Welligton Menezes de Oliveira, (right) the gunman in today’s attack on Rio De Janeiro’s Tasso da Silveira school, was taken out of the building at about 12:20 local time, as confirmed by Fire Department officials at the site.

The gunman’s sister, Rosilane Menezes, said in an interview with Radio Band News, that her adoptive brother was strange, reserved and had no friends. “He was so focused on things related to Islam and had let his beard grow long. It was weird, was on the internet all day reading issues and it was very strange, very secretive,” she said."

According to the firemen at the scene and the director of the hospital where the victims were taken, 11 children have so far died, for the most part girls aged 12-15.

“He started shooting. I crouched, and then I saw my friend was hit. He killed my friend in my classroom, ” said a young girl, who says she was in the courtyard at the time Welligton Menezes de Oliveira entered the school.

“He was well dressed. He came up to the second floor and I heard two shots. Then all students ran into their classrooms. Then he got up to the third floor where my classroom is, entered and started shooting, ” she added.

Menezes, a former student of the school apparently conversed with several people, teachers, workers, and told them he had been convinced to speak at a conference to be held at the third floor of the institution.

Witnesses say he just entered the class room, and casually pulled out a gun and opened fire on the students.

Police who happened to be near the school saw wounded students exiting the school, crying for help, and managed to surround Meneses after he got hit in the fire exchange. Meneses had a .22 and a .32 caliber hand guns, and enough backup ammunition to have created a much larger catastrophe had these officers not been around. Menezes shot himself in the head before police could apprehend him.

The deputy mayor of the West Zone, Edmar Peixoto said that Wellington Menezes left a disturbing letter in which among mad rantings, and disjointed phrases he suggested to be HIV positive, and justified his actions as some kind of fundamentalist based revenge. “He was determined to commit suicide after the tragedy,” said Colonel Djalma Beltrami. The letter was handed over to agents of the homicide division.

President Dilma Rousseff cancelled her commitments for the day and visibly shaken called for a minute of silence for the victims at a press conference.

The school has been closed, and will remain so indefinitely.

A recap: When publicized and condemned by Afghan President Hamid Karzai and officials in Pakistan last week, Jones’s bonfire provided the occasion for the deadly riots in Afghanistan that (so far) have left a dozen people dead, including UN and NATO personnel. The instant response from the liberal establishment was condemnation — not of the rioters who were, as is their wont, murdering for Allah, but of Terry Jones. As I noted in this space Monday, Islamophiliacs from Time’s Joe Klein to Senators Harry Reid and Lindsey Graham blamed Jones for the rampage. Even General David Petraeus condemned the Koran burning as “hateful, intolerant, extremely disrespectful.” On Face the Nation, Lindsey Graham said:
I wish we could find some way to hold people accountable. Free speech is a great idea, but we’re in a war. During World War II you had limits on what you could do if it inspired the enemy. Any time we can push back here in American against actions like this that put our troops at risk, we ought to do it.
Sobering, isn’t it, to realize how quickly folks entrusted with upholding the Constitution are willing to dispense with its protections? I was moderately tart about these latest exhibitions of what I called “preemptive capitulation.” But my response was a veritable valentine compared with Ms. Barnhardt’s eloquent demolition. There are some theatrics in her presentation. She repeatedly calls Graham a “jackass” — a “stupid, stupid jackass” on one occasion. In part two, she reads various passages from the Koran — those memorable bijoux that advocate the murder of Jews, infidels, and apostates, the rape of women prisoners, pedophilia, and beating of insufficiently submissive wives, etc. — and then rips out the offending pages and burns them in a glass fire-bowl. Crowning detail: she has bookmarked the passages with rashers of uncooked bacon. (“Raw bacon,” she explains, “makes the best Koranic bookmark.”)

Ms. Barnhardt describes the reading and burning of the Koran as “the main event.” It is a riveting performance, her declamation and analysis of all those goads to violence and mayhem, followed by the the incineration, one leaf after the next, of the dozen or so pages she chose: “Evil, evil garbage, in it goes and up in flames!”

U.S. Govt. officials upset over Qur'an burning

Two were Christians were just killed outside a church in Pakistan last week, and now two more have been killed because a Qur'an was burned in Florida.

That was last week or so. Now the death toll has gone up, Muslims killing over Pastor Terry Jones of Florida having burnt a Qur'an. Those causing the trouble aren't folks in Florida: they are savages who haven't come so far as to learn how to use a fork at dinner time. They eat with their hands. Well, one hand. They use the other to wipe their butts. What's to like about Islam?

Not only did Judge Richard Goldstone's words of regret fail to match the global resonance of his original report, it now comes to light that one of the most important newspapers in the world refused to publish his retraction.

A source close to Goldstone stated that in the past few days the judge had approached the editor of the New York Times opinion pages requesting to post the article he wrote in the paper – and was told his article was rejected.

NYT lead editoralist, Thomas Friedman, responded to Goldstone, "I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction."
