Stupid-Muslim-of-the-Day Story

MULTAN, Pakistan (Reuters) - Fateh Mohammad, a prison inmate in Pakistan, says he woke up last weekend with a glass lightbulb in his anus.

Wednesday night, doctors brought Mohammad's misery to an end after a one-and-a-half hour operation to remove the object.

"Thanks Allah, now I feel comfort. Today, I had my breakfast. I was just drinking water, nothing else," Mohammad, a grey-beared man in his mid-40s, told Reuters from a hospital bed in the southern central city of Multan.

"We had to take it out intact," said Dr. Farrukh Aftab at Nishtar Hospital. "Had it been broken inside, it would be a very very complicated situation."

Mohammad, who is serving a four-year sentence for making liquor, prohibited for Muslims, said he was shocked when he was first told the cause of his discomfort. He swears he didn't know the bulb was there.

"When I woke up I felt a pain in my lower abdomen, but later in hospital, they told me this," Mohammad said.

"I don't know who did this to me. Police or other prisoners."

The doctor treating Mohammad said he'd never encountered anything like it before, and doubted the felon's story that someone had drugged him and inserted the bulb while he was comatose.

I have a dhimmi of the day story.

Alexa McDonough, a member of Parliament and Foreign Affairs critic for Canada's New Democratic Party [NDP], sent out a press release on June 30, 2006 supporting Hamas:

"The NDP urges Israel to halt further offensive measures targeting Palestinian civilians. Thursday’s capture of Palestinian Parliamentarians further limits the Palestinian Authority’s already constrained capacity to function as a responsible, duly elected government, particularly during this time when Israel has cut all food and fuel supplies to Gaza’s 1.4 million people and withheld Palestinians’ tax revenues."

The full press release can be found on the Judeoscope website.

The NDP deserve to die. Seeing my MP, Bill Siksay. at the WPF really ruined my day, but reminded me to campaign harder next time to see his sorry ass go away.

Speaking of sorry asses, these stories of something getting lodged up the all wazoo and the person not knowing how it happened are a dime a dozen in certain Emergency Rooms - I know someone who was at St. Paul's and it freaked her out. Hell is on earth.

Alexa McDonough can make the same kind of claims the Pakistani prisoner makes, and with the same effect. We all know they lie, and only the most insanely committed to lying will even pretend it's anything otherwise.

How do we deal with people like those above, especially the one hwho has political power? How do we cope with an electorate who make themselves be taken in by liars? How do we, a current minority, protect ourselves from our fellow citizens who claim they don't know how a lightbulb ended up their butts? They are dangerous to us!

Reason and even common shame have no effect on them. What is to be done?

I hate it when that happens.

ER nurses tell me that patients arrived with all sorts of things shoved up into their anuses. Light bulbs are common fare.

When I lived in Vancouver's West End about 20 years ago, I knew a guy who knew a nurse at St. Paul's Hospital. The nurse -- an old-fashioned female nurse, not one of the new crop of theatrical gay male nurses who call every woman "Deeeaaar" -- reported people arriving at Emergency with household items lodged inside their bodies. A woman with a tea cup lodged in her vagina is the example that has stuck with me over the years.

Tea time will never be the same, Jane.

I'm put off by the whole thing, the insertion primarily, but also by the drive some people have to hope others will believe the lies they tell just because they tell them and the lies are supposed to cover some humiliation. OK, no one likely wants to be humiliated like that, but to compound it by lying is compounding it. And trying to belittle others and draw them into the lies, there's no end to it. All of us do things we don't want others to know about, and most of the things we hold private are mundane human and private activities. Lying is public. I'd rather have some creepy perv aadmit he's a creepy perv than have him lie to my face, as it were. It baffles me. M9st of it is trivial and not important enough to notice even if it were public. When lies become the tissue of our culture, then we're in trouble. The NDP woman above is a clear sign of our problem.

I have to go. Has any one seem my car keys?
