I was having coffee one evening at a small diner in Mexico City when I was joined by a young German fellow who asked me if I know the city well. I said yes, that I'd lived there for a year and knew it well enough. He put a Lonely Planet Guide to Mexico on the table, opened it to Mexico City, and took out a pen, ready to strike. He showed me all the yellow high-lighter marks, showed me what he had "done" so far in his trip to the city, and asked if there were places of interest he had missed.

Well, yes, he'd missed a lot of things of interest. I know of little gates that lead to courtyards that reveal things only someone determined to explore without fear would find. I know a lot of things about the mega-city that most people, locals or no, would not know of. But I don't know about the myopic pursuit of every detail in a guide book as travel. He had me beat there. I know of a sheet metal mural of charging horses, of a tavern for famous mariachis, I know things I don't speak of. I know of libraries and map stores and police equipment shops on the sly. But I don't know about the rigid determination to see it all in order and program. I know of up-and-coming wrestlers at the gym, of the derelict Communist Party meetings, hack journalists, torch singers, of the European exiles and the Asian trapped and the South American hopeful. I know a lot. But I don't know the book. I told him he'd done just fine and that I was impressed. He was relieved.

Michael is a computer guy here. He knows the book. He knows technology inside out and is picky and cranky about it. He loses his temper when one misses the point of chemistry of beer-making. He is upset when one is not taken with 1950s radio diagrams. He's like that. He's like that even in describing the disease that is killing him as I write. I somehow missed a step in the process of him decaying and dying, and he was furious. How can I be so stupid as to confuse this with that? I dunno. I just am. I don't really care.

But I like Michael. I went to see him after a frantic message from the aether, and found him collapsed on the floor. I considered picking him up till I had my arms around him and realised that picking him up just might break all of his ribs. His mind is strong, when one looks at his successful applications of technology to the working world. But his mind is badly broken, too. He is very likely insane in a mild if corrosively destructive way. He's gone now. I think of him as someone I liked, someone I pity, someone who blew it all. But it's not my place to criticise what he missed in his mad endeavours to do it all. No one can do everything. No one can get it right to the satisfaction of another. We all fall short, of their expectations, of yours, of mine, of our own expectations. Then we weaken. Then we die.

The Muslim perspective on S. Israel attack

Courageous Mujahideen armed with heavy weapons and explosives have terminated seven illegal criminal jews and wounded dozens in a series of attacks in jew-occupied Palestine, according to reports by jews who always diminish their their real fatalities and casualties under their brutal Zio censorship.

The attacks began around midday on Thursday and lasted for about three hours, news agencies reported.

The Zio thugs claimed martyring several Mujahideen fighters in a gunbattle. The jews always lie, exaggerating the number of their martyred enemies.

The attacks, which came close together in time and location, appeared coordinated, and represented one of the boldest strikes in years against the illegal jew entity in single and indivisible Palestine.

The series of the attacks began when the Mujahideen targeted a packed jew terrorist bus driving along a highway roughly 20km north of the Red Sea Palestinian town of Umm Rashrash.

Reports said most of the passengers on the bus were jew terrorists, so-called "soldiers", on their way home from their respective terrorist bases for the weekend.

The next attack came about half an hour later, when the glorious Mujahideen opened fire on a private illegal jew car several miles away, the Associated Press reported.

Jew radio said a vehicle had followed the Zio terrorist bus, and two to three Mujahideen got out and opened fire with automatic weapons.

The attackers fired mortars and an anti-tank missile, the enemy radio continued.

After that, an explosive device was detonated under the vehicle of a terrorist jew "military patrol" called to the scene, and a private illegal jew car was also attacked.

Frightened jew gang leaders convened in emergency session at their den called "defense ministry" in in jew-occupied Palestinian town of Tall Abib Yafa.

The cowardly jews said a "large number'' of the Mujahideen were working in multiple squads, but it gave no specifics, according to AP.

Ahmad Yousef, a senior Hamas leader in Gaza, denied the group's responsibility for the Umm Rashrash attacks, though he said Hamas "praises the attack since it attacked enemy soldiers and came in the right time while the illegal Zio entity is attacking Gaza almost every day".

"Since the whole political process is frozen, military escalation is the logical development," Mr. Yousef replied to the threats of jew thugs against Gaza.

Jew-occupied Umm Rashrash, is "a tactical choice for attacks because the resistance groups look for suitable places and times for their attacks," he told Al Jazeera, on why south-eastern Palestine may have been the target.

I mean it to be a way of protecting children from their Muslim parents and villagers who will kill children who opt out of Islam to become fuller human beings. Jihadis want tongue thrills from Letterman

The Toronto Sun reports that David Letterman is under the al Qaeda gun for joking about a dead jihadi.

LOS ANGELES - A Muslim militant has urged American followers to assassinate U.S. talk show host David Letterman, saying his tongue deserved to be cut out, a U.S. intelligence monitoring group said Wednesday.

The SITE intelligence group said the death threat was posted on an online website used by militants after the writer became upset by a joke Letterman made about the death of a leading member of al-Qaida killed in an air strike in Pakistan.

The militant called on Muslims in the United States to “cut the tongue of this lowly Jew and shut it forever,” the threat against Letterman said, according to a translation by SITE. The popular late-night television host is not Jewish.

The FBI said it was taking the threat seriously.

I'm taking this story seriously as well. I think cutting out Letterman's tongue is silly. I think the jihadis should take Letterman under the bleachers in the seventh inning and rape him. That would be funny.

Letterman quipped that he's hoping to give his tongue at the Kabul Soccer Stadium. He didn't say whether that would be under the bleachers or in full view of the audience. It should make for some entertaining late night tv watching.
