I would say politics is first about the cohesion of the group than it is about how they create or sustain wealth, the latter being only to do with various methods of maintaining group cohesion. Remember that there is no banking of wealth in the most primitive tribes. The only economic function is distribution and consumption of the ever temporary goods.
